Contains research notes, correspondence, and manuscript galleys for his books: "Lanterns over the prairies," Books I and II (1949-1950), dealing with frontier and pioneer life in North Dakota; "Gopher tails for papa" (1949-1950); "Extraordinary North Dakotans" (1954); "White Angakok" (1952) on Hans Poulsen Egede and the Greenlanders; "Brother to the eagle" (1952) about aviator Carl Benjamin Eielson; "Story of North Dakota" (1963); "Story of Red River land" (1967); "Indians of the Upper Midwest" (1971); "Tiger lily years" (1975). Includes extensive research notes for most of the books, correspondence and clippings, particularly on Carl Benjamin Eielson. The "Lanterns over the prairies" series contains numerous biographical files on persons not included in the two volumes and for which an alphabetical list is available. Also includes a copy of his Creative Writing course workbook, prepared for the North Dakota Division of Supervised Study, scripts from his public television series, and correspondence with M.A. Johnson of Larimore, N.D., concerning his book "Fifty years of country storekeeping" which was edited by Mr. Rolfsrud.

Born at Watford City, N.D., son of Nils and Rebecca (Heide) Rolfsrud. Attended Minot State College, taught in rural schools, graduated from Concordia College in 1936. Wed Beverly Brown in 1941. Employed at North Dakota Education Association, and wrote a column "Top Drawer" for its Journal, North Dakota Teacher. Began teaching at Concordia College, leaving in 1946.
